Job Description

The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners (NCACC) is seeking a Government Relations Project Coordinator .In this vital role on the Government Relations team, the Government Relations Project Coordinator willprovide project and office management to the Government Relations Team. As an experienced program or project manager, this individual will support the day-to-day activities of the Government Relations team and monitor activity at the General Assembly. This individual will also provide project management support for the Government Relations team for regular internal and external events. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as project leader for member events; perform project management duties including creating timelines for activities, deadline tracking, cross-team coordinating, and executing major member facing events, including County Advocacy Day, Legislative Goals Conference, steering committees, and other engagements as determined by the needs of the Association. Provide administrative support for the Government Relations team, including support for meeting logistics, calendaring, project management support, and coordination between departments. Helps create content from the Government Relations team including materials for steering committee meetings, newsletter articles, emails, video and web-based content. Serves as point of contact for members and exercises excellent customer service; works with the team to respond to inquiries and requests in a timely and professional manner. Creates systems and processes for the Government Relations team to work effectively throughout the year, particularly during session with bill tracking, legislative coverage tracking, external engagement tracking, organizing the Quick Response Team plan, and other coordination to help with the team’s overall strategy. Contributes to team’s annual planning, including offering creative and new ideas for working, and showing initiative with idea creation and execution; shows ability to create and execute deadline driven work. Seeks out and leads opportunities for NCACC staff to visit counties for the purpose of gathering information about county successes and policy challenges. Provide committee and other legislative coverage while the General Assembly is in session by listening and relaying important details and developments to the government relations staff. Serve as project manager for the Government Relations initiatives and special projects, which includes meeting coordination, noting action items and creating follow up plan, drafting agendas, and crating timelines for deliverables. Supports NCACC advocacy efforts through research, preparing written materials, and creating presentations under the guidance of the Director of Government Relations. Prepare, plan, organize, and carry out steering committee meetings in coordination with advocacy team and committee chairs, including scheduling, subject matter planning, and arranging for speakers. Provide coordination for other meetings as designated by the Executive Director, Deputy Director, or Government Relations Director. Make presentations to membership as needed. Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree and two to three years of experience in communications, project management, non-profit program management, or government. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: Experience with detail and deadline driven work; project coordination experience, working across departments and teams for project execution; experience managing meeting agendas, notes, and actions; interest in deploying project management systems and skills and working across levels of the organization to ensure tasks are executed and deadlines are met; experience providing top level customer service or engaging with external audience with a high degree of professionalism; knowledge of member organizations; proficiency withMicrosoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members and elected officials.
